Meeting: organising practical solidarity with the Turkish worker and rider movement

Online meeting. 12/03/2022 14:00

During the last Radical Riders meeting a Turkish unionactivist joined. He’s involved in the riderstruggle in Istanbul. In Turkey a great struggle has erupted in many industries. Doorbraak wrote about this earlier. Riders are in the vanguard. Also in Turkey, atleast as far as we have overview at the moment, the renaissance is coming with radicalisation. The workers organise more independently, and more from below. Radical unions play an important role.

Said unionman requested of us Radical Riders to support the actions and organise a solidarityaction. Offcourse we said yes. How we were going to fix this, we’d just have to see.

In Turkey already victories have been won in many workplaces, also by riders. The biggest strike (weeks ongoing) is happening at giant Yemeksepeti. We will direct our action specifically at them. Yemeksepeti is part of German multinational Delivery Hero. Delivery Hero’s Greek branch e-Food has recently been epicly beaten by the Greek riders. In this article on our site their union writes about their experiences.

Let us do more then put a declaration online. The practical international solidarity between German and Dutch riders of the past 9 months is more then just morally uplifting and inspiring. It’s a model to build upon. Delivery Hero however is no longer active in The Netherlands. So what can we do to practically shape our solidarity? Using some research techniques we learned at solidarity network Vloerwerk we’ve found concrete pressure points.

For those who concretely want to participate and work on this initiative on the very sort term there will be a meeting this saturday, organised by Radical Riders, at radicalriders.nl/meeting.
